The Heimat- und Trachtenbund Bräunlingen comes from Baden-Württemberg in
the South-West of Germany.
Bräunlingen is a little town with about 6200 inhabitants in the “Schwarzwald -Baar- Kreis”,
4 km away from Donaueschingen, about 120 km from Stuttgart about 65 km away from Freiburg at the south-eastern border of the Black Forest. The Swiss frontier is about 25 km far away from us. The region around Bräunlingen called “Baar” is the plateau between the Black Forest and the “Schwäbische Alb” (the Swabian Mountains).
The Heimat- und Trachtenbund is founded in 1923 and it has about 100 active members that are between 3 and 80 years old. The group of our children has about 30 members who are between 3 and 15 years old.
Our organization cultivates and maintains the “Festtagstracht der Baar” (the costume which has been worn at special
days.) The women´ s costumes are special works of art with embroidery of silver and golden
A remarkable particular part of our costume is the “Schäppel”, the bride´ s crown. This is a work of art with little glass balls, pearls, chains and little mirrors. The bigger the “Schäppel” was, the bigger was the prosperity of the farm the bride came
Our organization cultivates the traditions of the eastern side of the Black Forest and the “Baar” with songs
(we have a mixed choir), dances, music, little stories in our dialect and “Glockenspiel”
(we make music with little cow bells).
The Trachtenbund is one of the cultural pillars of Bräunlingen and we have been participating in many national and international folkloristic festivals for many
The Heimat- und Trachtenbund is the organizer of the “Bräunlinger Kilbig” , our autumn and harvest festival which is always celebrated at the third weekend in
October. In this capacity as organizer of the “Kilbig” we have been a member of the “C.I.O.F.F.”
Since 1982, we have had many German and international guests at our “Kilbig” every year. These international groups come from Bolivia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Senegal, Italia, Poland,
Estonia, Norway, Scotland and South Korea.
Besides about 40 performances in our town and region every year, our group makes about 3 or 4 trips to national folkloristic festivals (in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, Lower
Saxony, North Rhine- Westphalia, Saxony) or to international festivals in France,
Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Norway and Sweden.
1998 was a year of highlights for of the Heimat- und Trachtenbund Bräunlingen: the group was able to celebrate its 75th anniversary in October during the “Kilbig”. A few days later (from October 22 to November 1, 1998), 42 members of our group went to South Korea as official German representative at the “World Culture Expo” in Kyongju.
Other travel highlights: in 2002, the children’s group went to Spain and in 2004 the adult group went to
In 2004 our association has made a one-week-trip to the south of Norway,
the region telemark, and another special trip in August 2006 for ten days
to Tallinn /Estonia, Helsinki/ Finnland and Saint Petersburg/Russia.
A landmark in the history of our association formed in 2008 an
appearance trip of the adult`s group from the 12th to the 23rd of June in
the USA to New York and to the international folk party Murfreessboro/Tennessee.
